Dear Little Me...being an aunt

Feb 4, 2023
2 min read

Hello to February! We are already into the second month of 2023 and not only has a Chinese balloon been shot down but we have a niece who was born on the first!

Gabriella Threatt. 10:21 am, 7lbs and 13 oz.

She is beautiful. She has a set of lungs on her but other than that I just want to wrap her up and just snuggle till she is in college.

Now this is not our first time being an aunt. Although our first niece, Ava Elizabeth sadly passed away in 2019. She was 14 months old and just the happiest child ever. We won't go into details but I will say one thing, I know she would be happy to be a big sister.

When I met Chunk (that is Gabby's nickname for me) only a few short hours after she was born, I knew that I loved her. It brought back memories from when I held Ava for the first time. In a way they are similar, although Chunk does not have a full personality yet, I know that they will show similarities.

Being an aunt is fun, I have a step-niece and step-nephew and they are just crazzzyyyy kids haha. But I get to send them back to their parents, hyped up on sugar. That's the best part about being an aunt, you get to ship them home.

Don't get me wrong, I want to have kids one day but now is just not the right time. I am only 22, still wanting to go out on the weekends and travel everywhere. I do want to take my kids traveling but I want to enjoy the peace of a vacation without a poopy diaper or a screaming kid.

And it is crazy how fast you come to love your sibling, niece, nephew, cousins etc. The moment I saw both my nieces and nephew right after birth, my heart swelled. All I ever want to do is protect them, all of them. I don't want them to grow up and realize the world is not full of sunshine and rainbows. But eventually they will and along with their parents, I will be right there to guide them.

I will admit, when I first held Chunk....tears flooded my eyes, not just because of how beautiful she is but how I wished Ava could have met her. But Ava met me in my dreams last night. She walked up, put her had on Chunk, kissed her and waved goodbye. I know wherever she is, she is with us and she will protect Chunk with everything she has.

Over the next few months of being an aunt, I get to see my niece change and learn in so many ways. I will always get to see that but as a newborn it all happens so fast. Quickly. I don't want to miss a second. I know her step-sister and step-brother will love her unconditionally, as will the rest of the family.

That baby does not realize the army she has behind her. They protection and love that surrounds her. But one day she will.

Until next time...little me.
